On my way home from work, around half way home I was driving normal, no speeding, harsh braking, nothing of the kind, and when I come to brake, I heard a knocking sound and knocking feeling coming from my brake pedal, it happened on 4 different roads, all of which were wet.

What can be the cause of the knocking from the pedal? The car was fully capable of stopping in time.

Car in question is a 2005 Corsa SXi :o

- May I add the car has ABS...

Definately a knocking sound and not the abs causing the pedal to pulse?

Around 30 to 17-20mph, and then to a standstill, was very light on the brakes.

Do this all the time and all was fine up until today

Dodgy wheel speed sensor or something maybe?

Or.....have you been giving the brakes a toasting.....could be a warped rotor ;)

Have you crashed and died or something????

All has been fine today, could it have been something on the road surface?

And what would I need to do to warp my brakes?

PS - I'm not dead...:p

Overcook them a lot. I.e Me + my mate on the back of one bike,30mph downhill using my front brake only. Rotor is ****** and the piston seals fried.

Same idea with a car brake though.

Why would the ABS want to kick in at such an un-needed time?

Every car I've driven with ABS has had it kick in at some point for no reason at all and everyone I know who has had ABS has said they have felt the same thing with the buzzing pedal, noise etc. Only once I've had to really jump on the pedal because it decided the car actually didn't need to stop after all and I nearly rolled into the car in front. I have no idea why it does it but frankly it can't be a good thing. I wish they would sort it out.
