After getting the money for my WoW account im thinking about getting an Xbox 360 especially after seeing the Xbox premium package with Gears of War / C+C 3 / PGR3 and Xbox Live arcade for £300.

Is there any better packages at the moment? Just wish PGR3 was Forza 2! Also, the only thing I would have to conect it to is my PC LCD - Samsung 931c at the moment anyway, would it work with that? HD compatible? What cable? Can I have the PC and Xbox 360 connected at the same time? Also I assume I can have Live on the 360 by crossover cable to my PC and using its wireless connection via connection sharing?

Sorry for the million questions that have probably been answered 1000 times before, search function doesnt seem to bring answers.

I just bought this package deal, too especially as it had Gears, C&C 3 AND an extra wireless controller for £20 more than the consoles RRP. I don't think there is a better deal at the mo...

If your monitor has DVI and VGA inputs, then you could use the DVI for your computer and VGA for the 360 (you would need the MS VGA lead). Otherwise, you'll have to swap about each time.

Yes, ICS should work fine for Live connectivity.

Yep, my PC is connected via DVI so I have a spare VGA port. Whats would the quality be like on my monitor though, I assume its not HD compatible so it would just run as if it was on a conventional TV?

Your pc monitor will probably support HD. Any resolution above 1280x720 is HD.
The picture quality on my samsung 940BW monitor is great through the VGA cable.

Thats good to hear. I was reading about letterbox pictures and was worried as the screen probably isnt big enough for that!

It depends on what the programmers have done. Some games will run in a 4:3 aspect ratio, others will give you black bars.

As an example, Kameo is widescreen only, Oblivion has 4:3 as well. It's a bit hit and miss.

Is this the case for all TV's / screens?

Well as the games are primarily designed for widescreen HDTVs, all games support 16:9 widescreen display.

Computer monitors and SD TVs are mainly 4:3 and it's up to the programmer to give the game an optional 4:3 mode.

It doesn't matter what TV/display you are using.

Trust me its excellent, get other official VGA cable and you're set. I run this setup on my NEC 20.1 inch and it looks fantastic. The only games that have problems are a few of the the EA launch games (might be fixed through update now) and a couple of backwards compatible titles.

You sold it to me, see you on Live next week. :)

The only problem is, no one seems to have the VGA cable in stock, only 3rd party ones. :(

If your monitor is widescreen go for the vga cable, if its a 1280x1024 monitor then use your telly. I tied the vga cable on my samsung 930 bf and COD 3 ws the only game that wasn't stretched or squashed at that res, gears of war looked awful. If I dropped the res to 640x480 then all my games fitted perfect but 640x480 is hardly hd. Widescreen monitors work ok though.

Damn, was hoping not to read that!

Yeah its a 1280x1024 screen so not widescreen, dont have a conventional TV at the moment.

Thanks for the replies.

Well what do you know, thought id take an innocent visit to my local shop and came out 10 mins later with a Xbox 360 premium, Gears of War, Forza 2, Ghost Recon AW and Pro Evo 6 for £310 which I thought was a pretty decent deal.

Using my old 15" LCD tele for the mean time, couldnt believe how easy it was for me to get on Live, im connected via ICS using my PC's wireless connection which took me 5 mins to set up surprisingly. Im already on Live using the name 'Bozzles'.

Really pleased with it so far.

Cheers, seems a worthy investment. I clearly need a new HD TV to go with it though! :p Got my eye on one the £500 32" Samsung screen that perhaps il buy in a couple months.

Does anyone on here use the gametag 'SlashBored'? They just added me, wondering who it was.

I have a 19 widescreen hanns g LCD monitor. The picture quality for games on my 360 is truely amazing for £100 - using official MS VGA cable.

What res do you use? I'm thinking about trading in my monitor for a widescreen one, do all games work ok?

Edit: Nice deal you got there frank btw
