Hey everyone, thinking about getting myself a PS3....question I've really got to ask is aimed more at the people who have gone from PC > PS3....how do you find playing games (especially FPS's) on the PS3 and using the controllers rather than the keyboard & mouse combo

I too came from PC to PS3 and for the first couple of days i struggled but after that i was fine. There's still some people that whup me online as i'm not as experienced but i have managed to do such things as complete both Drakes Fortune and Resistance 2 in the highest difficulty so i don't feel my enjoyment has suffered in the slightest.

It's not as fast as a keyboard and mouse but you have to consider everyone is on the same controller so you play on a level field.

I was a die hard fan of mouse/kb for games for years and it is a simple case of giving it a chance and by the end of a decent game you'll be perfectly proficient and won't really understand what you thought the fuss was about, it really is fine...

what was "the" game that sorted out your pad fps skills? mine was COD4 on PS3 :p

(to a lesser extent i suppose there was Halo 1 & 2 back in the day)

so used to playing fps on console that i find it difficult to use a keyboard to game on pc anymore.
+1 i kinda feel like that now... (saying that, i'm sure you'd soon get back into it if the need arose ;))

my reason for moving to console is that i work all day on a computer, so for gaming i prefer to lie on the sofa in the lounge and play on a big telly :) - a lot more chilled out and a lot more casual i find :) ( sounds strange but i now find PC gaming sort of err... nerdy  )

people take it too seriously, its redicolous

on a console its very casual, on a pc you will always be getting whooped by people who clearly spend half their life on it

I think the PS3 is a great bit of kit but It's the only console I will never play a FPS on, the controller is horrendous for FPS games. I you are worried about the switch then chances are it will bug the crap out of you. Other games I have no problem with and the controller is up there with the best for most other genres.

It's not strictly a FPS on a controller that I mind it just the PS3 controller, I have no problem on the 360.

Differant aspect as I own a PC/360 not the PC/PS3 but it's really enjoyable being in both platforms by sacrificing the best hardware on my pc for mediocre hardware and still being able to play on most high details without a lot of AA/AF in newer games.

Definitely prefer PC games but for the reason no mates of mine own decent pc's the 360 is my most used platform for games unless it's and MMO or RTS.

Its completely subjective mate, best bet is to try it yourself, dont listen to people that claim 1 pad is better than the other as it completely depends on the user. I personally feel the 360 pad is clunky in comparison to the DS3. Best bet is to try it yourself before you listen to what other people think is correct. I went from PC to PS3 and it was fine.

Having problems with the shift myself. FPS games never interested me before the first Unreal Tournament was released, after then I played so many I can't count how many I've played. Been playing Call of Duty: World at War on the PS3 and it just doesn't feel right. I'm putting my money of the fact that I've been into PC's ever since I was 3 that my mind just can't adapt.

For me, the analogue sticks on the PS3 pad are too close together and the angles your thumbs sit at feel odd. Up and down do not feel like natural movements to me, this isn't usually a problem where accuracy isn't essential and controls are used for walking or looking around but I just can't aim well with them.

Having said that, I played Uncharted fine it really is just FPS games.

I still prefer KB&M for FPS games, but once you get used to them on consoles then they are very playable. I played COD4 on PC first and then on PS3 and enjoyed it just as much each time through.

I’ve been playing fps on the ps3 for nearly a year now and it will never replace the kb+mouse, its just the limits of using the controller.

And then you have the problem that the ps3 controller isnt the best for fps's

You get used to the controller style - so its decent. I havent as yet managed to be as agile with the controller as i am with mouse/keyb e.g. spinning jump tricks... will be a while if i can do the same stuff as still sorta struggling with the controller...

The controller style makes me camp more unfortunately. Because you need more twitch control assaulting (ie lots of sweeping quick mouse movement) run and gun style whereas with controller i'm sitting back behind cover and aiming.

Doesnt help that i still play fps on pc regularly. So am switching between the two.

Despite playing and enjoying a number of FPS games on consoles, they never EVER feel right, no matter how many years you have spent playing on them.
Today, I am going to go and get Resistance 2, I really enjoyed Resistance 1, however, were it on PC as well, i wouldnt even consider buying it on PS3.

I play on the PC and my PS3 equal amounts, i tend to stick to the PC for RTS and FPS and the PS3 for beat'm'ups and driving games.
