So I have my PC/monitor connected to a Belkin surge protector and this morning the surge protector was off, long story short it seems the sockets tripped - but now my PC won’t start. I’ve changed cables to no avail. It’s the original Corsair AX1200 PSU - have I missed anything else worth trying? Can’t remember exactly how old it is, but it’s quite old now. Looking back, I was playing cs go until about 1am, I turned my pc off but do remember hearing a bang...when the pc was off.

if it is the PSU - what’s worth buying these days?

Edit: Yep, PSU is 10 years old.

You'd better be hopeful it hasn't taken any other components with it :( Presume you've tried the obvious like a new extension lead/socket, flicking the PSU switch off/on - does the PSU itself smelt burnout at all?

What's your PC spec exactly? As your system must've been killer to need a 1200w PSU :p

The system wasn’t particularly killer, but when I bought it i had sli/high core cpu/lots of spinny disks in mind.

I have tried:

- new kettle lead
- Psu on/off
- PSU has no self test button that I can see

yes, hoping my system is OK. Looking at a Corsair HX750i as I replacement.

current spec is:

2700x
Aorus b450m
32gb 3200
980gtx
Various ssds

So what is the spec exactly now? :p None the wiser as to how much wattage you need at minimum lol

You’ve tried a different socket/extension lead haven’t you? Presume if surge protection off it could’ve fried the extension itself

not particularly bothered by what wattage I need, just which range are good. I’d happily over spec within reason.

For Sparx - my spec is above :-)

Cheers mcnumpty - the hx750i has caught my eye. Just hope my machine has survived.

PSU has arrived...I will install at some point - May be with my ML140 fans that have been sat there for ages :p

I was planning to use all new cables, but I may leave my old ones in.

If you mean modular PSU cables DO NOT use the old ones
Even same manufacturer `can` have different pinouts??
USE new cables that come with the new psu m8

I ask because i had problems using a replacement cable on a psu once caused all sorts of problems until i figured out the cable was incompatible :)
