Uk ship entering Crimean waters, which internationally is still recognised as Ukraine but Russia took exception.

The destroyer was probably already prepared and ready to sink the two russian ships if any of the fired shots looked like they were going to hit.
 
So you think they'll just let themselve by fired upon with no retaliation? Either way, they'd lose, so might as well go down fighting.
