Ok so I've now nearly got all the parts for soon to be assembled new PC rig!! :D

Only components I have not yet ordered are the processor, ram and motherboard. Please have a look and let me know your thoughts especially in regards to these three parts if maybe you think I can get something better for around the same price.

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850

Coolermaster Elite 430 Black with 500W PSU
1 x extra led fan for the back of the case

2TB Spinpoint Ecogreen Internal HD

LiteOn IHAS224-19 24x DVD-SM Drive LightScribe SATA

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge)

I realise the graphics card is not the greatest but i'm fine with this cause it was for a really good price and high level gaming isn't a huge incentive. I was advised to go for the MSI board due to all the problems being reported about Asus P67's (plus the Asus boards at that price are considered low end) and because figured it was best i could get for under £100. would you suggest another for the same price? and is this best Ram available or does it not matter?? not initially looking to overclock but hoping with these components i should have that option in the future

Thanks for your time

The ATI 4850 is that new or used?

Is the 2TB Ecogreen going to be the main drive for running the operating system/programs etc from?

Apart from these two questions, the spec so far seems good.

well the drive is slow, its 5400rpm spindle speed is not as good as a SamsungF3, Seagate barracuda 7200rpm.

Would definately switch the HDD for a 7,200rpm as the boys have already suggested.

Are you buying the gfx card used? Or are you reclaiming it from your old build?

Seems good apart from what the guys have already told you. I just thought that maybe you could manage with a smaller but faster HDD and shift the money into the gfx card budget if you are indeed buying one.

HDDs are relatively cheap anyways you can add an additional drive later. I would rather have 2 drives than one large one.....having a drive for backups is a life saver!!

Good luck with the build, come back to us if you have any probs

Stoner81 he can get the spinpoint f3 1TB for less than your drive. Not saying it's a bad drive, just the f3 is less and has a higher capacity. I'm expecting stulid to drop in and state that the drive will never use the 6GB/s interface to it's max :P

*edit* I know the OP said that gaming wasn't at the forefront of his mind for the build BUT we don't know if you are paying out for the gfx card if u are it makes sense to get a better one now. Seeing as you can get a 5830 for £80 odd I feel that would be a better purchase the 5850 is going for just over £100 (personally at the moment I feel any machine that will game on a budget should have this card in the spec, even without an OC it's serious bang for buck)

Thanks for all the feedback

ouch. bit concerned about the drive now. bought it from ****** not sure if i can send it back or swap!?!

I did a fair amount of research at the time of buying and all the reading i did and comments from people who purchased said it was practically just as fast as the F3 they couldn't tell any difference plus it was crazy quiet!! cant really budget in additional HD now plus 3TB in total would just be unesscessary!! ideal solution would be a SSD but no dough for that right about now.... though the difference by fact its ecogreen would only be minimal!!

paying £20 for GFX card so figured cant go wrong for the time being... probably upgrade in the future but i've got an xbox360 which pretty much covers gaming needs atm!!

thanks again

£20 for the 4850 is perfect.

you could by an addition 500GB Samsung F3 or Seagate barracuda 7200.12 and use that for the boot drive to run the OS/Programs/games etc.

then use the 2TB as a large storage area

I lol'd. :D

If you already have the 2TB HDD, I'd consider a small (30-40GB) SSD to go with a Z68 mobo (MSI Z68MA-ED55 or Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H should be out soon for ~£110). The 30GB Agility that was on offer yesterday  for £42 would have been ideal... so keep checking "Today Only" offers.

cool... after 40 minutes on the phone it seems i'm gonna be able to swap my 2tb ecogreen for a Spinpoint F3. Thanks for everyones feedback with this.

I reckon i'm gonna keep the PSU as Coolermaster are pretty reputable and i'm not planning on doing anything that should be too intensive for the time being.

So now its just deciding probably between the Asus P867 and the MSI P67A getting some compatible RAM and going with it!!
