Having broken a alloy during the winter weather road eating session that we had i had noticed the car behaving a bit odd on fast bends. Car was in for a new steering angle sensor this week [1st time i had a chance to get it into my indy] and they noticed a bit of oil on the NS front control arm.

This turned out to be a broken shock [car is very low so it didnt really showup n general driving] although there was a knock when going over speed-bumps etc. While they had it i asked them to check the car allover and they also found a cracked front spring on the OS plus, worn rear bushes!

Rather than go for M3 suspension again [costs are quite high] i went for a fully adjustable coilover kit. This is where i need the advice.

How difficult is it to fit a kit like this? Is it something best left to a garage or would me and a mate be able to get this done in a day? Obviously i will have to have the geometry setup again but, that would be the case if i do it or a garage.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Was easy to fit a coilover kit to my e36 Coupe. Should be easier on an e46, as the toughest part was loosening rusted bolts. The only caveat being the fact that you have a cabrio which might make rear access a little more difficult.

Otherwise was do-able in a weekend by a couple of keyboard mechanics. Possible to do in a day if you've got all the parts/tools that you need.

You're going to need an alignment after it even if you DIY so factor that in. From everything I have seen/heard/read it's quite a straightforward task.
