Hi,
Bought a 7800GT off a nice seller in the members market about a week ago but unfortuneatly it does come equipped with the loudest fan i've ever heard, when playing anything graphically intense it does sound like a jet taking off, short of water cooling are there any feasible air alternatives (replacing/removing current fan) or a way of stopping the fan spinning at a million rpm?
Chris

Yes, there are loads of quiet (or silent) after market coolers available. I used an Accelero X1 on mine which was very quiet, the S1 would be able to cool it passively.

If it isn't getting too hot you could always try fan management in Rivatuner.

Well I dont know what your options are. Can it be controlled by software, is the fan wiring visible, how many wires is it

Just sticking a large quiet fan by it would be something, when does the fan speed vary through startup, etc

If there is no software control you can alter. Hook the fan upto a manual fan controller and just turn it up to the speed needed

I use ati tool, in game I can completely silence it by changing profiles or I can stick it on 100%, etc

People always say buy another heatsink/fan, not nessecery imo not unless you want to overclock it harder anyway

i have a 7800gt too... and yeh its loud. i used rivatuner to put the fan speed down to 25% (lowest) for 2d stuff and for 3d i left it as 43% as my 7800gt on full load goes past the 80c marker. it is very very very loud. cant wait till i get a 8800gt ... hope it isnt as loud
