i have roughly 160 to spend on a mobo, cpu, ram and psu.

Total : £158.92 (includes shipping : £10.00).

for now i'll be content with the onboard graphics for basic use but will likely drop in something for a little gaming in a few months. it won't be for new games but to play my old stuff. i was more than happy with the 6870 i owned previously and will be happy with that sort of level. i assume this spec will be ok for that? :)

I would think that would be fine, if you are looking to expand in the future I would have gone for a Z77 board but that would inflate the budget a bit. If you can get a cheap Z68 board that is compatible with Ivy then that might be a good idea for future upgradability, don't forget your free shipping! I'd be wary of big multiplayer games like BF3, as they need a lot of CPU power, but otherwise you're quite set I would think :)

I can't link because im at work, but you can get a Z68AP-D3 for £35 from OCUK..

It is B grade but shouldn't be an issue. Im pretty sure that supports ivy's and can obviously overclck the K chips if you decide to upgrade.

Though it is ATX, will that fit?

Is it just me or are the intel pentium processors not showing a product description?

would be uiseful to see what they do.

More than what you had planned, but just throwing it out there, since you wont need to add a GPU to it at a later point.

YOUR BASKET

1 x Asus F2A55 AMD A55 Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £68.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual CHannel Kit (PV38G213C1K) £64.99
1 x XFX Pro 450W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £39.95
Total : £265.32 (includes shipping : £9.50).

must have been a very limited offer at that price as it's 54 quid now and it definitely wasn't there when i was looking yesterday.

and there are some other funcky price fluctuations too. the mobo is 4 quid more than it was yesterday but the psu is 5 quid cheaper. net saving: 96p. :p

i found this comparing the celeron g550 and pentium g620 (same clock speeds) and i didn't think the pentium was worth 13 quid more for the extra l3 cache http://www.cpu-world.com/compare/59...ore_g550_vs_intel_pentium_dual-core_g620.html (not that i know what more l3 cache does - probably a little better if you were to bench it for certain tasks but i'm not that bothered :p)

i don't even have a case yet so that's not an issue. i'm going to to run barebones for now and buy any old case when i get some more cash together. i'll take a look....

@ linwelin, as the thread title should imply, i'm on a really tight budget so i can't consider that.

anyway, thanks all. :)

^i wouldn't get that. when you take away the cost of the mobo and cpu, it works out around 26 quid for the 4gb of ram when you can get 8gb for 35-40. i know they put it together for you but i can do that myself. thanks though. :)

anyway, it doesn't matter now as i've just gone for a 2nd hand bundle in the member's market. i'm getting a slower celeron g530/h61 mobo/8gb ram for 60 quid. that's a good saving for me. :p

You did well there, thats a great start.. Not earth shattering by any sense of the imagination but will do you well.. :)

Pop yer head in the MM mate, I'm sure you'd be able to find some usefull bits in there.

Oh and don't forget Here, the B-Grade section has had some cracking prices recently.

EDIT: LOL may have posted a bit late :p
