Hi

I am considering powder coating my Coolermaser ATCS 110 black :D

My question is, do i need to dismantle the case fully, ie drill out all the rivets so the case is in peices?

Or can it be left as, case side panel, mobo tray?

I have found a local company to do it for £65.00 + vat.

Any advise appreciated.
 
Take it to pieces.

If you don't you'll end up with missing patches in hard to reach areas or areas where the coat is thinner than other areas.

What you have to remember is the Powder coaters will be used to Power coating large volumes for big engineering companies and they're not going to put massive amounts of effort into your one off case.

I had two PC343Bs powder coated, one that was taken apart and one that wasn't - so I'm talking through experience. :)
 
Smooth, should be. The powder coating paint will hide the brushed alu.

I can get powdercoating and shotblasting done for free. My father has access to facilities needed ;)

I could ask him how much it would cost for it to be done if anyones interested but it would need to be sent to lincolnshire

i may need a couple of bits doing if it is possible, only small.
10x5" piece 2x 1/2"x5" pieces and a 1.5"x3".

need to see if i can get it anodized first but it aint looking good. so handy to have a quote, rmsrd both ways and the cost to powder coat shouldnt come to too much lol :eek:
 
It all depends

If there already something being powdercoated in the colour you want that day then they can slap on a lower charge and charge a standard rate.

If there turning on the ovens and getting the gear out just for you then expect to pay more. The ovens are costly to run.

For anyone that doesnt know the process is

1) Old paint grease/crap burnt off in an oven
2) Shotblast the item with a fine sand like material
3) Hang the item in the powdercoating room which has a small electric charge running through the item
4) Spray with the powder which sticks due to the current running through the item
5) Put it in a very hot oven for about 20mins to cure
