Power but no Post

My pc won't post. I was playing F1, paused it, looked at tv for a few minutes, looked back, and screen was blank. Keyboard doesn't light up either. All fans work. No beep. All connections are secure including 8 and 24 pin psu connectors.

Tried each ram stick one by one, in different sockets too. Disconnected power from all drives and dvd player, just had gpu powered, and psu and exhaust fans running to see if it would have enough power to post. It didn't post.

Last night F1 froze once, and last few months there's been a humming sound which I don't know if it was from the psu, it might have been. Spec is in sig. I hope it's not the mobo or the cpu. There's been no overheating, and everything is just over a year old.

I need the pc working and I could replace the same psu tomorrow locally from a certain well known place. It would be easier to have the same modular psu again. If it is the psu, I think it's a 3 year guarantee, but not sure if OCZ would refund me after testing it, or if they only send replacements? It'll take ages whatever happens. What should I do? I don't know how to test the psu, cpu or mobo. I reset cmos with jumpers, didn't help.

I'd imagine that OCZ would replace the unit, rather than refunding you actual money. Still it's always worth having a spare PSU. It will take several weeks to get a replacement and you will have to foot the postage charges to, I think, the Netherlands.

I'm not convinced it's the PSU but that's a good place to continue your fault finding, perhaps it's also worth swapping in an old graphics card if you have one.

Does your case have a speaker? Mobo have a LCD readout?

Thanks guys. I read through your psu testing admiral huddy, very interesting. And no tealc, I didn't have a spare gpu. But I bought an xfi hd 5450 today for 40 quid which didn't make the pc post, and fortunately now got a refund on the 5450. I've now come home with an 800w 80+ Atrix psu which is 50 quid on the basis I can get a refund, so that's good too. I wouldn't want anything other than ocz, corsair, etc, but it means I can find out if it's a psu issue. If it's not then I'm really stuck. That would leave cpu, mobo or ram. Is it conceivable that both sticks of patriot viper ram could both be dead, having tried them one by one? Just trying to eliminate what I can.

YES, I got POST! :D It IS the bloody power supply. After having trouble getting any power from the replacement psu because I had the two 4 pin 12v atx connectors in the wrong ends of the 8 pin socket (my OCZ has one 8 pin connector), it finally booted into bios asking me if I wanted last best configuration. Phew! Don't have to worry about cpu, gpu, ram and mobo.

I'm going to return the atrix as I read it's a terrible inefficient brand likely to fail at high load, and I'll buy an ocz or something good till I get the replacement.
