What a noisey devil this card is!!!! According to ati tool the fan is only at 14% and still it's louder than anything else on the computer. Would have perhaps gotten a different card knowing this one was so loud. Are the X1800/1900's pretty loud going too?

Well that was a really helpful comment, wasn't it? Anyways, If its that loud, I'd replace the cooler with either a zalman or arctic cooler. Incidentally, Is it loud because of design, or loud 'cos the bearing is faulty?
 
Loud by design. And as D.P. says the 7900/7800 fans are by comparison much quieter if realscot doesn't want to fit an aftermarket cooler and was looking to replace it with a X1800/1900 type card.

I've heard somewhere that the 7900 series coolers aren't that quiet anyway, depending on manufacturer, could be wrong though, if they are quiet, I stand corrected.
 
Most of them all have the standard cooler on them which is the same as the standard 7800GTX cooler. It's a lot quieter than the ATI cooler which makes a horrible whiney noise when the core heats up.

Whats your problem? Why bite his head off for saying the 7900gtx is quiet? If the guy asks if a x1800xt/x1900xt is quiet then he could afford a 7900 card, hence why hes saying its quiet as these cards run cooler than the ati solutions.

7900GT's are loud, 7900GTX's aren't. Bigger/slower spinning fan.

That is not biting anyone's head off. It appeared to me as a comment with no information offered wrt alternative cooling solutions that would be quieter. If someone posts something here, ppl generally get the impression they're looking for information/options, thats all.
 
yeah and a 7800gtx wont fit in a agp slot :p i wish they would.


as for the x850 put a zalman on it

install artic cooler rev2 from overclockers and you won't hear a thing
