I am looking to build a little computer and wondering what sort of PSU you need to run some of the graphics cards.

Interested in the following cards:

8800 512mb
8800 GTX
48**
47**

Thanks

As a datapoint while fiiting a new 4870 yesterday I ran my system connected to on eof the power monitor sockets you can get. Running 3dMark06 with

PhenomII 720X3 oc-ed to 3.5MHz
4870 512MB at stock
2x2MB DDR2
1xHDD
1xDVD/RW

then I never got over 250W power draw from the entire system.

Nice as I was thinking of getting something like 300-450w

Would that run any of the cards i mentioned?

I will only have
1xHD
1xDVD Drive
2x 2G RAM or 2x 1G RAM
And the graphics card

TBH tho - you want to leave plenty of headroom - by keeping the load on the PSU to around 70-75% at max you reduce the chances of running into any abnormal power characteristics which could reduce the life of components and also means the PSU is running cooler and hopefully quieter.

So as an example - if your never peaking more than 250watt - then I'd personally not want to run any PSU under ~400watt - preferably 450.
