Power Consumption

Dont know how hard this will be to work out but I was woundering if someone could tell me a rough price of how much it will cost to run my home server for a year.

The server is an AMD Athlon XP 2400 with 2 SATA 500GB and a 40GB system drive. I've put a 250W PSU in there hoping to reduce costs.

I know its going to be very hard to calculate as there are so many variables but a rough idea would be great. We are with British Gas energy and I think we pay around 6-8p KW/h.

Buy a power meter from bnq. They are quite cheap. Work out how long it takes for 1 kw/h.

This won't be very accurate as all hardware is different, but it'll estimate your power usage: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

Also, putting a smaller PSU in won't reduce cost to run it. It'll only use as much as it needs.
