Hiya folks

We sometimes suffer power cuts which whilst a pain in the backside its when the power comes back on that I have issues.
Mainly with my Sonos system and IP conflicts

How do I set up my system so it reserves certain mac/IP addresses

I'm sick of having to turn everything back off and start everything in a particular order just to get my Sonos working in my living room.

I've got a UPS, well two actually. One is just for the modem, router, switch, DECT base and ATA VOIP adapter and phone, the other one has a higher rating for the PC and monitors.

You only need one for the broadband stuff though and will keep all your settings, and no worries about a power cut spoiling your line rate because of DLM. A low power UPS is cheap enough and might be an answer for you too to keep the Sonos powered.

You could just configure DHCP reservation on the router. You just need the devices MAC addresses and then you tell the router to always give the same address to the same MAC.

IP Address Reservation
To reserve an IP address:
1. Select Advanced > LAN Setup and click the Add button.
2. In the IP Address field, type the IP address to assign to the computer or server. Choose an
IPaddress from the wireless router’s LAN subnet, such as 192.168.0.x.
3. Type the MAC address of the computer or server.
Tip: If the computer is already on your network, copy its MAC address from
the Attached Devices screen and paste it here.
4. Click Apply to enter the reserved address into the table.
Note: The reserved address is not assigned until the next time the computer
contacts the wireless router’s DHCP server. Reboot the computer or access its
IP configuration to force a DHCP release and renew
