Don't you just love it when your on your pc and then all of a sudden the power goes. Currently in a power cut and got to say I'm bored lol but havn't been in a power cut in ages, looks like its a wide area power cut as well.

But now thinking of getting a UPS so my rig won't get damaged during a sudden power cut. What you think guys? Do you use one or have any make/model to go for as Ive never looked in to them.

For small price I hook you up to Strangford Lough generator :) If you have a decent PSU then it will protect against such things as sudden power failure and shorts. UPS systems are mainly for mission critical servers and so on.

You would need a long cable to hook me up to it :D I have a OCZ 700w silent is this considered decent? Will have to search when I wake back up to see if it has protection for it, that's if my power is back on by then.

I run a refurb smartups 1500 that has my nas and desktop running from it as the power around here is pretty flakey (the thought of all those hard drives killing themselves gives me nightmares). The nas connects to the ups via USB and auto shutdowns at a low battery level and I shutdown the pc as and when or it gets a command from the nas via winnut.

Last time I had a power cut it lasted 24 hours. It wasn't just your usual power cut though. As it turned out to be some cable under the road in the back street had blown cutting the power to about half a dozen houses. contractors had to dig up the road and were working until midnight the following night to restore power. :(

This is why everyone needs a laptop as well as a desktop...

Tether laptop to phone and carry on browsing like normal... ;)

Didnt mention my network and router runs from the ups too, turn everything else off and they'll last for hours. No unsightly data bills :D
