Power draw and gpu use

Is it normal for a third monitor to massively increase the power draw and gpu useage on a 780 when compared to two screens?


A 1440 and a 1080 (on dvi) has the card running at 324mhz with 10% power use. If I activate another 1080 (dvi connected to hdmi port on card), the gpu use goes up to 860mhz and the power to 50%. I could understand some extra resource usage but I dont understand why the increase is so big?
