on the notes at then end of the description for the 9800GX2's here it says that i need a true 8 pin rather than a 6+2 pci express connector... is there any actual technical reason for this or is it OcUK covering their backs if there is some sort of problem?

I've recently got one of these Akasa 850W power supplies and am concerned i may have to buy another power supply to cover my future needs, even though in it's description and manual it says it is "PCIe 2.0 ready" and "supports dual 8 pin" connections.

I might not be right - but I think it's because of the position of the clip on the 6-pin connector? If anyone wants to clarify... Be my guest.

who knows, until you get the thing. I had similar concerns with getting a 3870x2, which I asked in my thread. Luckily though the 3870x2 will function with two 6 pin connections and doesn't require an 8 pin (except for overclocking). I think you can get a 6 pin to 8 pin adaptor with some 9800gx2'd but I'm not entirely sure.

The BFG Gx2 has a 6 to 8 pin adaptor.

Btw, this question has been asked in 3 or 4 other threads, you could have looked about first instead of posting things as they come into your brain.

thanks guys, i had suspected that was the case

@ Makunouchi i did a search but couldn't find what i was looking for; so i asked... simple
