power for graphics card

Hello,

Im just about to buy a 970 or 980 graphics card. I have been informed that the card requires a lot of power. My power supply had a PCIe cable which has a 6 pin and 8 pin connection on the single cable. Can this single cable power the graphics card . Or do I need to but a new power supply that has 2 PCIe cables?

Can I ask what make and model is your current psu?

A 970 needs two 6 pin PCIE and depending on what model you buy the 980 needs the same or in some cases two 8 pin PCIE.
