Power issue

Hi all, hoping for some help here.

I've had this random power issue, only twice and doesn't happen all the time, here's what happens:

Playing BF3 for hours on end, exit the game, go to look at my Battlelog profile to check stats, PC powers off. There's no warning, it just switches off.
When i go to turn it back on again i get the PSU power cycle where it comes on for a second or two, then powers off, then on again and repeats for about 30 seconds then powers on fine and all is good.

My PC is overclocked, but stable and as i said has only happened twice, in the exactly the same way, exit BF3 and open battlelog.
Fully stable at load (Prime & IBT), and idle for hours and general usage is fine and the temperatures of the CPU, GPU and Motherboard (Including VRM) all perfectly fine.
It looks to be a PSU issue tbh, but i can't think why. Also i've updated my graphics drivers recently so i'm rolling back. I am currently testing all at stock but it doesn't happen everytime..

Rig specs:

  • 3930K @ 4.5GHz
  • Samsung Green @ 2000MHz Cas 8
  • Asus Sabertooth X79
  • Crucial M4 256Gb SSD - W7 Ultimate
  • WD Caviar Black RAID-0 - Data
  • Asus GTX 580 Matrix Platinum @ 925/4400
  • Asus GT 520
  • Asus Essence STX
  • OCZ ZX1000
  • NZXT H2

Has anyone experienced the same sort of issue?

Is your ram Oc?
If so set it to stock an retry sounds like a ram issue.

99% of RAM issues display some sort of BSOD in my experience and i've never come across this power cycle issue with RAM.

Yes it was overclocked but i'm trying the entire system stock for a while and seeing if it still happens.

I have an update!

12v was reading low, under 12v at around 11.7v~ (software reading) if i remember correctly. Now i didn't think much of this until today the PC wouldn't turn on, was just cycling around trying to turn on and failing.. Then i thought, if the 12v rating was too low this sort of thing would happen.
So i unplugged all 12v connections, used different PCI-E outputs on the PSU and hooked it all up again. Booted after one cycle and has booted fine since. 12v reading is 12.192v (again, software reading).
I'm going to keep an eye on it but ready for an RMA if it continues.

Ok so the 12v software reading (multiple applications) is around 11.5v idle and 11.4v load. It doesn't look good!!

I haven't had any crashes but still have an issue booting up where it cycles twice.

I'm going to invest in a voltmeter/PSU tester before I raise RMA with OCZ.
