I have three sata hard drives in my computer. Last time I upgraded I didnt bother installing my IDE drive again (Which has vista on).

I tried to do it today and it doesnt get past the post screen. Just freezes there. No beeps or anything.

If I unplug it, everything boots up fine.

Any suggestions? Is it too much power consumption? I wouldnt have thought so.

Thanks

Are the jumpers still set correctly though? Can you plug it intio a different machine?
I cant see it being powerr consumption unless you are running 2 pc's from that 700W PSU. Have you tried just plugging in the IDE drive and not the 3 sata's (Remember which port they came from!)? It could be a conflict somewhere.

It might be a stupid question (hope it is) but does it matter which of the plugs I use, if i only have one device on the ide. So the cable is pluged in at the bottom, do i have to use the middle plug on the cable or can i use top?

ok i tried that ans sttill the same.

not tried unplugging everything yet.

Defo sounds like a conflict to me,

Get the same when the jumpers are set wrong when using just ide.

Remove all sata drives and try it then, cos sometimes they can conflict with the ide.

erm, for ide i always use cable select, That way as long as all the other ide drives are on cable select it still works.

However i dont know about sata that much as i havent used it much, but i have seen conflicts between ide and sata.

Ok. I have it set to master with slave present.

As I have dual boot with xp/vista (This being the vista) does it need to be marked as master or slave?

Or should I select cable select. I dont have any other ide devices on the computer.

Thanks

Master.
Tried disconnecting the SATA drives temporarily?

No not yet, i have it all tied up nicely so didnt want to do that really but it is getting near to that point now.

So firstly I should try changing it to master

If that fails, try leaving as master, unplug the sata (Can i just undo the ones that go into the mb?) then try again and replug in the sata after it is working?

Switched the jumper settings to master, left all the sata drives in. Had to run in safe mode to begin but works fine.

Now I just have to unplug and put it in the case as its hanging out the side at the moment.

But thanks as usual guys, best forum in the world for helpful people!

Thanks!!!
