Not sure what the problem is but since I got my new mouse and keyboard in November there have been a few occasions when they stop responding. Not at the same time but both devices have stay illuminated so I guess the ports are ok I just have to unplug and plug them back in. You can see my spec in my sig but I only have a 520watt Corsair Modular PSU. I know you will all say it's not enough (my overclock failed after a month and Ives just left it, I assumed it was down to power) but I just want to know if this problem is down to the PSU or possibly a naff mobo?

I plan on going for 750watt soon. Other than mouse and keyboard on USB I have also, my Philips amBX kit, Toshiba 1tb external hdd, iPhone charging or iPad most of the time. With those on top of an illuminated keyboard and mouse could the be drawing too much power?

Had a look at your post yeaterday and after a bit of research came up with 2 points.

First with the mouse or keyboard not responding i had the same issue and had to uninstall the mouse and then put it into another port then reinstall.

Secondly i used a psu calculator on your system spec and you are very close to your max wattage, so i would consider an upgrade .

Good luck

Ahh thanks man! Appreciated, out of interest which site did you use for the calculator?

I've tried changing ports around but it hasn't happened often enough yet for me to remember which ports they were in. Do you think then maybe with all of my peripherals in and being close to max wattage it would cause the USB devices to lose connection?

Corsair CMPSU-650HXUK HX 650W Modular Power Supply (PSU)

Would that do the job well enough, i dont want to spend money on power i just wont need but i dont want to have upgrade again until it either breaks or goes out of date with the hardware.

^^ that will be more than adequate, tho tbh your current psu should be fine... the only problem with it is it's an old psu now whose ripple is probably quite bad.
