So i bought a new case and motherboard and psu i havnt yet intalled a processor hard drive or graphics card but just for the test i switched it on to see what fans etc looked like but unfortunatley the power led doesnt light up but the other one ( hard drive led) does (trying to read harddrive) . ? .

so I thought maybe it could be the led so i switched the power led into the harddrive led plug and it lights up so i now know its not the led.

Will this power led not light up untill i have installed a cpu ? or do you think its a problem with the motherboard ? i am sure i have the wires in the correct places .

I know it sounds stupid, But try turning the power led plug around. Mine wouldn't work until I had it a certain way.

I have done i thought maybe they had put the possitive negative on wrong wires but it didnt do anything :/ but im sure it should light up shouldnt it even without cpu and hard drive

As you haven't yet installed a HDD, it sounds like you have the Hard-drive LED cable connected to the Power pins and the Power LED cable connected to the HDD pins. E.g. they are the wrong way round. Cheers

Edit: Just re-read your post and seen that you have tried this - apologies.

It's generally not a good idea to power up a motherboard without a CPU installed.
The LED may be under the control of hardware and deliberately doesn't turn on if there's no CPU.
