Hello guys, for my very slow speed I think I have found out why. My sky router wants to be plugged into the master socket. This is located down stairs and my PC/PS4 in room.

I like to stay wired, never rated Wifi for playing online, If I buy a set Power line adapters and then use a network switch. Will this allow me to plug all my devices into it like it was the back of the router?

Dont fancy spending a lot but lets say £100 max for both. What would be best to buy?

Thanks this all new to me.

Powerline sounds ideal for your scenario - I use a set of TP-Link PA411KIT, they stream 1080p stuff of a Plex HP microserver fine.

You can get some adapters that have around 3 RJ45 sockets on the bottom, so you might not need a switch if you only have 2-3 devices you want hard wired? Some adapters also act as wireless access point too

£100 for a set of adapters and a switch is way more than you'll need, you'll be lucky to spend £40-50

Thanks, yeah this must be hard wired. Will look at some that come with 3 sockets on them. I have ps4,sky and pc to connect.

He could but if he only needs 3 sockets, then buying an additional switch presents:

1) Extra expense
2) Another power/plug socket used
3) One extra single point of failure

The single socket power line adaptors are usually much cheaper however, plus a gigabit switch is dirt cheap and will allow gigabit speeds between devices connected to it. Most powerline adaptors are 100mbps. Its just another choice, not saying its right for him.

I've bought the tplink 6010 av600s. They have a 3 port version now, but I opted with the 1 port and tplink switch boxes. Purely to give flexibily on where the switch is located compared to the socket.

I have my ps4, freesat, tv and lappy on one.
Other end of room I have my twin sonos play 5s in and a wifi hot spot in another.

A spare for roaming around where we want it.

Downstairs in the garage one plugged in to the router.

Some are even on extension leads and I'm getting 400Mbps.

New house mind.

The only thing we have wifi for now is the mac air and mobiles.

I was really hesitate, but they are awesome.

I have used them before and they where really good, in the end they got old and started to have high ping rates so dragged a Ethernet cable upstairs with a splitter :P

I'm using the Devolo 650+ set and they are amazing! I get my full internet speed of 8.5MB/s from the ground floor to second floor! (3 storeys).

I had brought cheaper TPLink and D-Link however these maxed out at 4.2MB/s on downloads.

Update on this.
I bought Netgear powerline 500 and router is down stair and PC is connected upstairs... These things are simply stunning.. I have a fast connection to the router and getting my full fibre speeds.

Anyone thinking buying, dont think just buy :D

I have similar scenario

Master socket
Router
Switch

Switch goes
Direct to main pc
Direct to printer
Power line to htpc

Laptops are obviously WiFi

I have av500 from netgear

Handles Blu ray rips fine
WiFi doesn't at all

Overall cost. About 35 pounds for switch and powerlines
