Just picked up a Dual 2.0GHz G5 Powermac and the power socket in the back is a funny shape and not a normal kettle lead plug. Anyone have any idea what socket it is and where I can get a Power lead from.

It's an IEC class 1 connector for high current devices. I've seen the odd server with them on.

I had no idea the G5 had a unusual connector tho!

The Mac Pro too.

I think the one on the Mac Pro is a regular kettle lead, it's just in a recess - a normal kettle lead fits it, I think. Same with iMacs, they look like a funky lead but you can use a normal kettle lead.

The pins are the wrong way round for a kettle lead though according to the other picture...

Bingo.

the new plug is a straight IEC class I, high current female cable connector (16A, 250V AC in Europe, 20A, 250V AC USA) commonly used on equipment that draws more current, as opposed to the class I female connectors (10A, 250V AC) that we're all used to being a "standard" computer cable. I'm still not happy about it... but I am no longer confused.

Looks like the original PMG5's came with the high current connectors, which were changed to standard connectors by the time I bought mine. You might be able to get one by phoning up the Apple Store.
