Power Meters

Garmin vector here, has them just under 2 years. Like the fact they have both sides and easily swapped between bikes. Used in some grizzly conditions and still working absolutely fine. The v2s are much better. I'd probably get the power tap pedals nowadays tho as even easier to swap over.

Price range is seriously the biggest factor now. You should post your budget because suggestions will be all over the shop if not.

I am a Garmin Vector user also and very happy with them. They can and are used throughout any weather condition. I swap them between my bikes, it takes 2 minutes tops to swap them around.

Power2Max with Rotor3d+ is what I would seriously consider putting on my racing bike, but that's because it would go on and stay on there.

Money no object I would go down the SRM route.

For the £500ish (second hand) bracket I don't think anything is better than the Vectors and I say this because they give L/R balance stats and are so easy to swap around your bikes.

I personally would not touch anything made by Stages after seeing and hearing all the nonsense.

I was looking at Vectors how do you know what size pod to but 12-15M or 15 - 18 M:confused:

Is Ebay the best place for 2nd hand ones ?

I think you are seeing the sizes on Gumtree for the upgrade kits? 12-15mm would be the standard, I am not sure which crank diameters for screwing in would be as big as 18mm to be honest!!

I tend to just look on Gumtree these days, I have seen a few V1 Vector kits on there recently for the £550-£600 mark, there is a set on there now for £650. Worth a look on eBay, just filter your search on "Used" so you see a lot less as searching for Vectors spams your page with upgrade kits!

I've been using a Stages PM for over a year now. It's had some issues with battery drop outs and the battery door falling apart (due to the number of times it was opened) but it was replaced (outside of warrantry) for a new unit with no issues.
You can find a new G2 Shimano 105 model now for about £450.

However, if I was buying now I would get a Garmin Vector 2 system.
One sided : £490
Both sides : £800

I have a powertap SL+ wheel.

It's probably the cheapest method of getting power, and is reliable/proven product. Wheels tend to build heavier than stock wheels, not too bad with the new hubs but they are more money.

I think power2max, quarq, pioneer are all on the same level. Pioneer have a trick head unit to go with.

Garmin pedals are good, but you have to use their cleats which might not appeal to you. Not really any downsides to them, not that cheap I guess.

Stages, meh I would avoid, seem to have issues, not worth the hassle when there are so many other options.

Garmin fit Look Keo cleats as well as the exustar ones.

BePRO pedal power meter uses the same pedals with their power meter
One sided: £380
Both sides: £570

My only gripe with the BePRO is that it has a rechargeable battery that only lasts 30 hours, so will need recharging regularly.

Personally unconvinced by Vectors, of the 3 people I know that ride with them, all are constantly having issues. Stages much the same, but finally seem to have their act together now. Still seriously limited, and pricey for single sided.

Quarq, P2M and SRM are the gold standard in my eyes. Never heard any complaints with either.

I'm almost certainly gonna pick one of these up (single sided) in a month or so. I'll let you all know how I get on...
