Current rig is a 5600+ AM2 and a 1950xt, mobo is M2nPV-VM, running 3d mark 06 the power unit goes nuts...squeaking and all that...and the perf of my system doesn't seem to great....could the power unit be taking away the performance???, it's a 500w unit but only a cheap one??

Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks

3DMark06 is supposed to stress your system and if this is the only time it does it, it should be plenty unless your ever thinking of going SLI.

Squeaking noises? It's probably the fan making the ruckus. If you've got the money to spend you could get a new one but it's unlikely it'd be hurting the performance of your rig. Insufficient power supply stability would, most likely, cause the system to become unstable.

If it were making popping noises I'd be more worried. I'd hate to see you have the PSU blow and take out the rest of the system.

The noise could be anything mate unless you are more specific.
The performance issue shouldn't really be related to the psu, as said above if there was a problem you would most likely have stability problems rather than degraded performance.

If it was my system it would never be on a generic 500w psu, but as it already is I would swap it out for a known brand quality psu of around the same rating (although it doesn't need that much from a good quality psu).
