Hi guys,
My i7 rig Win 7 with XFX 750W PSU seems to have developed a strange power issue. It's been working well since it was built over a year ago and nothing has been done to the system since then. I apply power to system. Press power button on front of case, and... nothing. Keep pressing it, leave it for a bit, press a few more times and a few mins later after constant pressing it will power up and POST successfully on one of those button presses. The system then works 100% absolutely perfectly. Shut down in windows, all shuts down properly and powers off. So I now try to switch on again. Without removing mains power, press power button and same as before, cannot get it to power on without difficulty

Before I start pulling stuff out, swapping the PSU (I think I have a spare) any immediate thoughts please?.

Thanks, Steve

I would say it's a PSU fault by the sounds of it. Swap that out first as you say you have a spare, I would be surprised if it was anything else.

power button would be a good guess, make sure the jumper on the board is on properly, follow the wire back to the button (if you can) make sure it's not damaged.

since you get solid power when it's on it sounds like the switch for the button may be faulty.

when you're all booted up does pressing the power button do anything ? if it should power off or restart etc and it's not doing it then i'd definitely look at the switch

Turns out to be my 18 month old XFX 750W PSU. It has five year warranty fortunately so getting a RMA number from XFX and will contact OCUK for a new one. Is that the normal procedure for warranties?
