Hi,
Just put a GTX260 core216 (the MSI one with dual fans) in my dads PC, which previously had a 460GTX (1GB) in it (I realize the 260 is slower btw but the 460 is needed elsewhere).
Anyway, the PSU is an Antec 400W high current gamer PSU, and as you'll know the 260 is quite a power hungry card, moreso than a 460. The case has dual 12cm fans btw.
What we're getting is pauses in some demanding games, like the screen will freeze for 1-3 seconds and it happens repeatedly. I tried FurMark and it was doing the same, but it only starts when the GPU temp (reported by FurMark, and confirmed as accurate by MSI afterburner) gets up around 82-84 degrees (the fan is at around 65-70% speed at that point). FurMark freezes and I can hear the GPU fan rpm drop, before the screen unfreezes and the fan picks up again. The GPU load also drops to 0% during these freezes.
I've looked up temps for the 260 and it seems that anything under 85c is 100% fine, so I'm inclined to think the PSU can't quite supply enough juice for the card when it's under heavy load.
Just looking for experienced peoples opinions on whether it's the PSU or whether the card could be overheating.
Cheers,
Simon.
