Power Problem

Well we are getting there slowly! ;p

Sounds like the gfx card isn't mounted properly. There should be a lil plastic catch that holds the card in snug. It's at the back of the card furthest away from the display ports/back of case. Check to see if it's locked in place.

Wouldn't hurt to reseat the gfx card even if it is, push the catch down to release the card then unscrew the card from the mounting bracket. Put the card back with a firm push, should click when the catch flips over the card.

Hope this helps, let us know if it doesnt

i have tried that and we are getting startup everytime. i went into bios and put on CPU fan fail warning and when i reset it is having a constant beep. thus leading my to think the fan is broken.... should i put the one from my athlon 64x2 back on?

Plug the cpu fan into the chassis fan header if it will reach. It will run at full chat so may be loud so dont be alarmed. If it still doesnt spin the fan is dead replace it

cheers honosuseri. i have just done that. not a flinch. Looks like i will have to return the fan. will have to check the returns policy as the fan hasnt spun sice day 1. i just thought it was the clever part of it haha

Trouble is it's part of a unit, heatsink and fan so they may want the whole thing back! If it's just the fan you might as well just use the old fan from your other cooler. Choice is yours but i couldn't be bothered to remove a heatsink then clean the cpu and replace the heatsink when a fan swap is easier.

im havng to do the heatsink each time. im so worried that i have cooked the processor whilst trying it each time. how would i know if i have? i had it go all the way in once and that is it. starting to get frustrated now

the fan is a different size so i am having to change the whole heatsink. what im saying is because the other fan wasnt working i am worried i have cooked the processor. could this be the reason that it is not loading properley.

Oh i see.

Well one step at a time. The arctic freezer is dead so email for an RMA code to return it. If the old cooler works it might just be that it can't cool the CPU well enough. Wait for the replacement heatsink, once on check it works ok and download prime95 to "stress" the cpu and test stability. Also download cpuid's hardware monitor so you can monitor temps whilst prime95 runs.

I should think the CPU is ok but if it repeatedly fails prime 95 then RMA that too.

Cool cool. You have to bear in mind that your CPU is a quad core so an old athlon64 heatsink may fit the socket mount but it's doubtful it can shift enough heat to keep the CPU stable as it want designed for the X4 CPU.

Many phenom ii X2's are actually rebadged X4's and can be unlocked to X4's but the stock heatsink just isn't man enough to cool them once unlocked as they are noticably smaller than the X4's heatsink.

I do feel sorry for you, you've had quite a bit of hassle......hopefully you're nearly there!

cheers mate. got it working with the small fan but it is waaay to hot. just going to get the other returned. like i say, will keep you all updated. cheers again
