Posting on behalf of a mate, he called me just there. When he was out last night and the PC was on, the power went in his house/ power tripped. He unplugged everything when he got home and powered back on the electricity in the house, but when he plugged in his PC it let off a bang and the power went down again.

So the PC is tripping the power everytime its plugged in.. also smells burning.

So by the sounds of things its the PSU thats gone to smoke or could it be anything else in the PC thats causing the issue? I'm heading down there now my self later tonight to see what's going on. I built the system around 2 years ago and IIRC I put in a Tagan i-520Watt PSU in it.

Next problem is, could any more components be damaged. He has several harddrives full of vital information as he is a producer and a lot of info is kept on his drives. Hope these aren't damaged :(

Any tips ?

had this happen with one of my hp servers, everytime i plugged it in it blew the fuses and i smelt burning. The psu is knackered so get a new one and it should be fine.

Yeah I'm hoping its just the PSU. Should be able to get an Antec NEO 550 watt tonight off someone who doesn't need it. I'm hoping that does the trick and everything is un-touched.

You might be lucky and nothing else got damaged, my hp server was perfect once i put in a new psu. It kept blowing fuses so it should be only the plug and psu that got damaged.
