So confused at which standalone office packages I need to buy/download to get

Power pivot, power query (and power BI, which I will download separately)

Im thinking it's office 2016 professional plus? But it isn't clear.

I have office 2013 professional - which doesn't seem to have the addin available.

Any clarity would be welcome.

(I really want to avoid a subscription)

On further inspection, pro plus doesn't seem to be available standalone

Apparently 2013 does have PowerPivot?: https://support.office.com/en-gb/ar...l-add-in-a891a66d-36e3-43fc-81e8-fc4798f39ea8

Doesn't say which version has it but I would be surprised if professional doesn't, it usually contains nearly everything.

EDIT: Hmm reading more it seems you actually need pro plus but that's usually for volume licencing.

Buying Excel standalone seems to work though: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...essional/f410687e-44b4-49ae-a88b-0ce70a4f59d6
I had office 2013 Home & Business, and wanted to use PowerPivot as well, but couldn't. Given what I read at powerpivotpro.com, I purchased Excel 2013 standalone version given it's included. It was better than purchasing Office Pro Plus. For me to get it to work I had to uninstall Office 2013, then install Excel 2013. I enabled the PowerPivot add-in, then installed Office 2013. Everything is working fine.

From memory my office version (2013) was upgraded for free to 2016. Just throwing that in there as it sounds odd you wont have all the latest features if they are migrating in such fashion.
