Hi guys,

I have just (on the advice of helpful people on the board) upgraded my system - with a little help from a friend who has built more PCs than I have.

My new specs are:

Alienware Area-51 case (from old build)
Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Nehalem)
Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Intel X58
Akasa AK-967 Nero Direct Contact Heatpipe CPU Cooler
3GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3
EVGA GeForce GTX 260 "Core 216 55nm" 896MB
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS (from old build)
DVD-RW and DVD-R drives from old build
Hiper Type-R 580W PSU (from old build)

After a couple of false starts I now seem to have it up and running, though I haven't stressed the GPU with anything demanding yet (patching WoW atm).

I was slightly disturbed to note that the new MB has an 8-pin power socket instead of the old standard 4-pin. PC running OK so far with just the 4-pin plugged in to the MB. The video card also has two of the PCI-E power sockets, though I had a spare slot on the PSU and was able to run a second cable to it.

Is my PSU up to snuff here? Two or three people here said it should be fine before I placed my order, but I am a bit worried now as it doesn't have the new type of connector for the MB.

(Another weird question - can anyone tell me why on earth the 'safely remove hardware' tab now gives me the option to remove my C drive? Never had that happen before.)

Those parts won't reach even 250W draw but still that isn't quality PSU but "bling-bling-kaboom" brand

That's feature of SATA in it's native (AHCI) state.
I'm not just so sure would Windows actually allow to remove its own drive. :D

(if you have drive in one partition that's big mistake)

Purchased from this very site on the advice of several people.

I had noticed it seemed to have fallen out of favour, but clearly people liked it a couple of years ago...
