Hi Guys,

i#m hoping one of you guru's can help me out. I'm putting a parts list for a mate of mine who's in need of a powerhouse system multple uses but mostly to run multiple virtual machines on (i.e. a full virtual network). He's got a healthy budget so having done some reading of whats hot and whats not i'm thinking a system based on a pair of Xeon E5420's. It'll also be packing an intel 5400 chipset board, 8Gb of RAM, 1-3 SATA HDD's, a SATA optical drive and a graphics card similar to an 8800GT.

My question for you guys is... what sort of power requirements is a system like this gonna have? What size PSU should i be looking at... 750W? 1000W? more?

Cheers in advance.

Jim.

Enermax Galaxy is certified to run a Xeon system (whatever that means..has two eight pin CPU power connectors I guess).

Buy the 850W version. Make sure you buy a case long enough for it though (the E-ATX mboard and PSU that is).

Our similar Dell 2950s seem to draw around 1-1.5A, so add the graphics card and you'll be looking at nearly 2A. Add in power supply losses, you should be OK with 600W, but maybe you'll want 700W for head room.
