Hi Guys,
Been doing a bit of consulting as a favour for a friend. Talked it through and he's set up the DMZ fine. However the Mandriva box attached to the interface seems to need a keepalive mechanism to hold the NIC up. This presents an issue as if the NIC goes idle it seems to disable which takes line protocol down on the VLAN on the Cisco and it hence removes the route from the routing table. The result of this is no traffic gets routed to the NIC to wake it up again, once it goes down it stays down.

I'm no linux expert but my guess is some sort of power saving function is happening as it's a pretty fresh install so it's likely to be at a default setting.

What can be done to turn off power saving functions on the NIC? Having dedicated keepalive traffic isn't an elegant solution.
