If you just leave it, everything should have already underclocked itself to idle speeds, assuming you haven't turned off speedstep/c'n'q in the BIOS and have the Windows power profile set to Power saver/Balanced.
Set BIOS options for energy saving (and check in CPUz if it clocks down when idle) and close background processes you don't need (check in task manager sorted by CPU time to see what's using the power).
Blank screensaver and turn off monitor after x minutes.
You could underclock the GPU in 2D mode.
Disable wireless adaptors and everything else you're not using.
