I want to stop my computer (in sig) from going to sleep so I can share the files and the printer with other computers in the house, but I also want to save as much power as possible when not gaming.

What's the best way to do this?
What settings do you use?

If it was me I would try to run the CPU at the minimum voltage it would run. Perhaps I would even go as far to have a different BIOS profile whereby the CPU is downclocked/down-voltaged for night "shifts" for a better word. Naturally you also keep the LCD screen off.

....or, it might be just easier to get a cheap low powered Atom or similar PC and have that run during the night while the main PC if off.

+1

This is the purpose for building my HTPC -

Main rig uses 150W idle
HTPC/NAS uses 20W idle

Failing that maybe use an old laptop ? Some of the old centrinos use 9W which is amazing even by todays standards.
