Your sweeping statement that cheap PSU's damage components is BS!
Provided said PSU can supply the required amperes it don't matter who's made it, it will not damage the hardware unless a fault occurs.
Obviously if a fault does occur then the likelihood of damage to components on cheaper PSU's is higher but even expensive PSU's that incorporate protection electronics can and do damage components when THEY go pop!
Thousands of people do every week and their computers still work fine
The only real reason to buy very expensive (£60+) PSU's is if you are into overclocking as rock solid voltage rails are very important for getting the MAX speed from components when overclocking. For stock computers the cheaper generic high wattage PSU's work fine hence why thousands of them are sold every week without hundreds of problems!!
Obviously spending £15 on a PSU for a RIG that has cost £1k+ is silly, but so is spending £100 on a PSU for a rig that has cost only £300-£400
Their are PSU's on the market that cost £35-£60 which can and do power pretty much anything out their at the moment and some!!

acording to Jolly_Jason its ok to build a pc with a 5-20 quid psu. So how on earth all those psu's died i dont know.... lol.
