power shortage

Your sweeping statement that cheap PSU's damage components is BS!
Provided said PSU can supply the required amperes it don't matter who's made it, it will not damage the hardware unless a fault occurs.
Obviously if a fault does occur then the likelihood of damage to components on cheaper PSU's is higher but even expensive PSU's that incorporate protection electronics can and do damage components when THEY go pop!

acording to Jolly_Jason its ok to build a pc with a 5-20 quid psu. So how on earth all those psu's died i dont know.... lol.

Thousands of people do every week and their computers still work fine:rolleyes:

The only real reason to buy very expensive (£60+) PSU's is if you are into overclocking as rock solid voltage rails are very important for getting the MAX speed from components when overclocking. For stock computers the cheaper generic high wattage PSU's work fine hence why thousands of them are sold every week without hundreds of problems!!
Obviously spending £15 on a PSU for a RIG that has cost £1k+ is silly, but so is spending £100 on a PSU for a rig that has cost only £300-£400
Their are PSU's on the market that cost £35-£60 which can and do power pretty much anything out their at the moment and some!!

Your arguement is flawed. The point i was trying to prove was:

Very unlikely! When you use a power supply that cannot supply enough current then the computer rig will simply become unstable as the voltage rails will drop below spec. This is basic ohms law stuff!!

Achualy over time you will be damaging your components.

But who use's a completely unstable computer for any length of time
Also the only reason it would damage it over time would be due to the massive amounts of crashs/restarts! An overclocked (increased-voltage) computer damages components over time more than a computer that has decreased voltage provided both are stable!

If you have a hiper or any other cheap psu like a tagan it can easly damage it over time. Doesn't nessarly have to crash.

A Cheap psu which is being strained to much will damage your components. Youve twisted what i was trying to say.

Case closed. If you want to power somthing which isn;'t a little word typing pc dont get a cheap psu because when you push it to its limits it will screw up badly.

My example of a hiper psu is based on facts of peoples experiances and reviews who haev said its so called 580w is over exadurated by 200w and its bad components its made from make it highly dangourus for the rest of your components. Over 380ws it starts behaving badly with voltage and getting into the 400ws it could take your components out if it screws up.

Now let it drop as you claiming you can build a pc on a 5 quid psu is a stupid thing to suggest when someone wants a gaming pc.

well thats not true at all, what about all those people who bought thier 486dx100s or pentium 166mmx systems for over a grand? you saying a 15 quid psu is not good enough to run those systems because they cost over a grand at one point in time?

think outside the box

LOL.

And jason editing your post above mine 6 minutes after ive posted mine is a bit cheap lol.

I feel sorry for the box; no one ever wants to be in it.
Good point though, but that was going back a few years.
My mum paid over £2500 for her 166, with 16mb ram and a whopping 1.44gb hard drive. No idea what the PSU was like though. ;)

i remember those days, psu's wasnt really an issue back then lol, it was always seen as 'that little box thing at the top thats makin my case so dam heavy to carry' :) nows its like the most important choise ull make
