have just received my point of view gtx280 1024 gpu. in the box were 2 adapters for the power supply. one takes 2 four pin molex to make a 6 pin pci, the other turns 2 six pin pcis into an 8 pin for the card. the card requires one six pin and one eight pin. what i want to know is if the adpater to make the eight pin requires one or two six pin plugs plugged into the splitter? it has 2 sockets merging into the one eight pin plug, most of the wires seem to share a socket with 2 cables going into the back of one pin quite a few times. does this adapter need two six pins plugged in or just one? if it does i will have to get an adapter to make another 6 pin!

I think that a 6-pin connector can supply 75W of power and a 8-pin one 150W so I think to run the card at it's theoretical maximum power draw you need two separate 6-pin connectors.
But it might also work with one connected but I am not too sure.

That was my first thought. What PSU do you have lgrenter?
ive got a hec win power 800watt psu. looked through the tangle of cables and only found 1 6 pin. it has an 8 pin for the card, but the cable is 2 inches too short to reach the gpu socket as the cable is also used for the 4 pin motherboard supply!
Are you sure, I thought it would have a separate 6-pin and 8-pin for videocards and a separate 4+4 pin connector for the mobo
checked all the plugs coming from the psu. lots of 4s, only one 6pin pci-e,it has an 8 pin, but this is on a short lead connected to the motherboard plug, its then too short to reach the 8 socket on the gtx280. have ordered a couple of 4 to 6pin pci adapters so when they come hopefully will sort out the problem, then i can plug my 6 pin straight into the card and use 2 convertors to make two more 6pins to go into the 8 pin adapter and fingers crossed all ok!
