I think my new 2week old PC may be dead :(

Its been working fine since i built it all about 2 weeks ago, but i just turned it on and just as the "starting windows" came up on the screen it turned off ad now wont turn back on! :S

Ive unplugged and left the PSU for a while but no joy. When i plug it in and turn the PSU on i get the green light on the mobo and the PSU/CPU fans both move a tiny bit then stop, the power button on the case does nothing :(

help meeeee please :)

im confused! :S

ive done the paperclip test and the PSU fan and case fans spin!!

but when all plugged into the mobo i just get a flicker of fan movement on the PSU/CPU fans and no reponse from the case power switch!

what now? dont tell me the mobo is dead after 2 weeks!

right then, ive got EVERYTHING apart from the 8-pin power connector for the mobo plugged in, even the 24-pin mobo connector in and everything spins up and works fine

however, as soon as i plug in the 8-pin power aswell all i get is a flicker of fan movement and then nothing! :S

is my mobo dead or could it be the 8-pin power cable from the PSU?

Hmm i'm not really sure, i dont know a lot about this side of computers, but i think it could be a dodgy cable, whats the make of your PSU?

its an antec TP-650

i should be able to return either the mobo or PSU and get a replacement as i only got them 2 weeks ago! but just need 2 know which one to return..

Well i would see if i could return them both because i don't know what the problem is but it sounds like the PSU. And you should be able to return them no problem. I'd wait for a more experienced user to answer first though.

Is the 8 pin connector splittable into 2 x 4 pin connectors?

Normally if you start up without the 8 pin or a 4 pin attached the system wouldn't start and show error or beep at you.

PSUs are designed to shut off if they sense an issue such as a short circuit or something. When this happens it usually cuts all power to the system.

When the PSU trips does it cut power totally to the system? Or does it just twitch and then allow you to attempt to start again?

If the PSU has partially failed it could be allowing you to do some loading but as soon as you bung a CPU and everything else on it it'll just trip for safety reasons.

nope its just an 8-pin connector with no split

if i have the 8-pin connected, it starts to power on for a millisecond, PSU fan and CPU fan twitch and then its just off, have to unplug the PSU cable and leave it for a seconds before plugging back in before itll let me try again :S its really strange!

It's failing the PSU Power on test then. Could be a PC fault or could just be the PSU.

Try a different PSU in the system.

I know someone who had a similar problem to yours, the psu would just spin up for a second then shut down, we also figured it was the psu that was at fault.

We tested with another psu and had the same problem, turned out the motherboard was faulty, both psu's powered up with a new motherboard.

If you can and have a spare try a different psu unit, or see if you can test your psu in someone elses rig (if they are willing), other than that return both psu and mobo and get replacements :)

I am not all knowing about pc problems, am just letting you know of my similar problem, let us know how you get on.

tried the 4-pin PSU cable and it sis the same, flicker of power then off...

so its not the 8-pin cable from the PSU, or the PSU at all?

looks like a dead mobo to me...great

the standoffs are all fine, using all 9. ive reseated the power/reset button cables aswell

its only been built for 2 weeks so i doubt its anything else than a dead mobo sadly :(

dont know wether i should get the same one again now of a different one!

its an ASUS P8P67 B3 rev, not the pro or anything just standard one

ive logged an RMA ** No Mentioning of Competitors *** Competitor so should have a replacement weds! ill just fit it and leave it for a week or so before returning the other one...assuming it fixes it!

cant believe its died with only 2 weeks use!! :@

I doubt they will send you a brand new one without confirming the original is in fact faulty.

Have you stripped all optional extras out of the system and tried to POST with the bear minimum... Mobo, PSU, CPU, GPU and RAM. Only have the 8 pin and 24 pin connected. Disconnect all hard drives, dvd drives and any pci cards. Use only one RAM module in DIMM 1. Closest to CPU.

It was working fine for two weeks aye?

theyve created a new order for a replacement at no charge for me, to be despatched today and delivered tomorrow, amazon are quite god like that in fairness

ive just gotta return the old faulty one to them within 30days otherwise ill obviously get charged for two! will find out tomorrow night if it fixes it! fingers crossed!!
