Hi all

I need a power supply upgrade and I simply wish to know if there are any hard and fast rules to abide by when choosing one that fits your case.

My case is an ATX (Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower Case), but I'm a bit confused with E-ATX and XL-ATX. Do these specifications only affect mobo choice?

A good example is this supply:

Xigmatek Centauro 1000W '80 Plus Bronze'

Will this fit?

There is not mention of ATX.

Am I just reading too much into this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most PSU's generally fit in all cases including ITX as they are of standard size unless otherwise said.

The main rule to follow is buy good!

Are you looking to purchase a new PSU? If so what is your system.

The E and XL are more for motherboard sizes.

PSU which are higher in wattage are larger on size some smaller cases have restrictions which could limit PSU size.

Antec did do one PSU which would only fit in a certain case.

What are your system specs? One in your sig?

Cheers

Well my system is the same but with more stuff added.

There are more peripherals (inc. 2 HDs) and I'm going for a 7870 because I can't cope much longer with this GDDR3 card, and the system is struggling for power as it is. The new card will kill it for sure. So I'm biting the financial bullet and going for something decent.

Cheers for response

Yes, I wouldn't go cheap.

As I just put to the other guy, OcUK did me a good entry gaming system, but now stuff has been added it's flagging.

A 7870 will be the final nail in the coffin.

Cheers

if you have a large case, then PSU cable extensions could be necessary. Sometimes the 8-pin CPU connector is too short in some cases. That also gives you the opportunity for coloured cables (although these are usually more expensive than plain old black extensions).
