Power Supply advice

pastymuncher you have the same 8800GT as me have you had any problems with it? for example hanging, freezing or making the pc reset?

Only if i push the ram to 2000mhz which is why i settled on 1950. It's not the greatest clocking card i have ever had, then that can be said for most of Nvidias releases since the 7 series. There are 3 versions of the Zotac card though. The stock one, the 660mhz core one (mine), and the overclocked 660/2000 one.

Have you got a decent psu? By decent i mean a branded one and not one that came with a case.

yerr its a thermaltake TR2 550W. i thought it could be the PSU at first but i tried my other GPU and it was fine. It's defo the 8800gt:confused: Mine is over clocked 675/ im not sure what the rest of the bits are

I take it you are using the 2 into 1 adapter to power the GT or does your psu have a dedicated pci-e plug? Have you tried changing the adapter/plug to see if it's faulty? Maybe it's not getting enough power.

i have two PCI-E plugs, tried both of them so then i tried the 2 into 1 adapter. im still getting the same results. Anything you could think it could be?

I have One of these, and it works fine for me.

Before people come out mentioning using expensive, brand-name PSU's. I've never had a budget, bundled PSU fail, yet the £120 Tagan I bought a couple of years ago lasted just over a year.

You get good and bad ones even with quality brand named psu (Hiper anybody? ;))

The Huntkey isn't too bad, review here:

As stated the 3.3v and 5v lines have low wattage.

And on a general note about oem, non branded psu's have a look at this roundup and what happens with them including a 650w supply:

Since a psu blowing can take out a lot of the rest of your system or a poor one cause instability, IMO you should never skimp on a psu.

Not particularly. I know there were quite a few problems when they were first released due to people clocking the ram past 2000mhz but apart from that i am not sure.
