1 samsung f1 1tb ecogreen
2 x 8600 gts in sli
hiper type r 580w
antec 900
was using a 8800 gts 640 but its now dead so i'm borrowing a friends old 8600's. been waiting to see how nvidia's new offering works out performance and price wise either way ill be buying a new high end solution probably 1st week of april. i like to build my systems to last several years with a minimum of upgrades, i will most likely be getting another gfx card in a year or 2 with whatever i get, im just trying to sort out a psu that will be fine for that upgrade.
nvidia are stating that the 480 gtx requires a 600w psu (for the whole system) with 42a on the 12 volt rail for the gfx card. is that the total amps accross all the 12v rails or just one? im a little confused. also does it mean i need 84 if i sli them down the line because that seems extreme to me?
another factor with psu is, i fear, im turning into somehting of an old man with regards to noise, have fan controllers in place to disable the case fans and kill the lights for watching films and alike so id like somehting that runs quiet but kicks out the juice when i need it.
budget is around £100 would prefer to spend less but will spend more if needed, looking at 3 specific ones at present but unsure if their powerful enough becuase of my confusion above.
modded my 900 for cable routing behind the side panel and harddrive bays so modular is not a must have tho obviously useful to have.

1 12 rail @ max 72a (from corsairs site)
ocz gamextream 850 (around 80 tho not stocked by ocuk)
http://www.ocztechnology.com/produc...rmance/ocz-gamexstream-850w-power-supply.html
4 12v rails @ 20a each
i like the look of each of these powersupplies all have solid reps and good customer support and warrenties, just depends on are they powerful enough, hoping ive got the amp need for sli wrong, of course if the 470 and 480 suck will make this decision a little easier but id like to future proof my psu somewhat, like to buy it now as my type r is 38 months old and its starting to develop a whine i hope people can help and im sorry for the text wall
