Tried to turn on PC today and nothing from it, tried power button on the board and still nothing, i can see lights on the board are on ok but just won't turn on.

It's a Corsair tx750, this is my suspect as its been in use since my i7 920 in late 2008. And also used with my 5820k system.

I have a new Corsair tx650m in a box that was meant to be used for someone else, but i can try it in my system or just temporarily. Is 650w enough for a 5820k and 980ti or is it pushing it? PSU calcs seem a bit mixed with the results, but from what i can tell it should be ok at least at stock.

Certainly enough to try out, even if it’s just to fault find. When I had an intel sandybridge and 980Ti, I went with an 850w to be on the safe side

What a PITA, had to undo all the cable tidying at the side of the case and now it still won't turn on with this other PSU.

Power light on the switch itself and the reset switch just stay on sometimes, then start blinking. Talking about on the board itself. Nothing about this in the Asus manual. Anyone have any clue? Anything simple going on here or could the board be bad?

What other troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Suggestions to try/tick off below:
  • clear CMOS - unplug from wall, press case power button to deplete residual power and perhaps do the full 10 minute battery removal, rather than simple jumper.
  • Re-seat all connections and components (memory/GPU) - may be a contact problem that automagically corrects itself.
  • Make sure you're plugged directly into the wall and not an extension cable (or quality different extension lead)
  • try alternate PCIe slot for GPU (assuming not ITX)
  • skeleton setup - 1 stick, no hdds, all none essential leads disconnected and jump start the motherboard (unless you have an onboard button)
  • Change CR2032 battery - board is of an age where may be an issue (just).
  • Alternating memory sticks/slots
  • Check that the motherboard is firmly fixed to risers - no movement.
  • Check GPU and memory slots while reseating.
  • Probably forgotten some - will add if i think of any
If no luck with any of the above - you will have to consider a skeleton setup outside of the case to rule out shorting.

I replaced the power lead to the PSU last night and it powered on a few seconds and that was all i got.

Haven't moved it either, it was in exactly the same spot when it was working.

I've unplugged all the RAM and GPU, only thing that's plugged into the board is CPU with cooler and fans.

Next step take the CPU out ?

I don't think I'm gonna get anywhere with this but it's funny how it just happened out of nowhere. I'm going to have to put the case on its side somewhere because it's awkward to get at stuff, especially with the big cooler in the way.

Well, i left it off for a while and tried to power it on again.

Now it gets as far as this, but that's it. Before it wasn't even showing the error code LEDs as it was mostly off, though it doesn't tell me anything because there's nothing i can find on 00.

Pressed the CMOS reset button, now it has just gone back to like it was before, it doesn't even try to turn on now and no error code showing.

I'll try taking the battery out, but i have to remove the cooler to do so.. I don't think it's going to help.

Probably something screwed.

Well taking the battery out and putting it back in after a bit did nothing.

Last thing i can do is take the board out of the case. I think this is pointless.

Anyone think the board is knackered or CPU? Doesn't seem like it's possible to find out without a spare board.
