Power supply clicking sound and stutter in game

For the past few months I have been experiencing stutter in intensive workloads such as games. It seems to happen to all games not just specific ones. I have had my pc for over 10+ years and have upgraded it over time so the majority of components are from the last 5 years at most except for the power supply.

With the stutter I am experiencing it seems to coincide with a noise that I assume is my power supply. It's kind of like a clicking sound almost like something is switching off. I do not have any tools to test the power supply for changes in current, voltage, wattage etc... if needed. So I am unsure of how to test whether it is a power supply issue or something else.

What model is it? Some PSUs have a hybrid mode where they switch off/on the fan depending on the load, though I'd be surprised if that had impact on the PSU itself. If that's what is happening, there may be a button on the back you can press to turn this off and leave the fan running.

Are you running the PC on a circuit shared with other devices? Is there a possibility that a high draw device is turning off/on and this is impacting the PSU?

Is this stutter that you never experienced with the same components before?

Have you monitored usage with task manager to check if anything is stuck at 100% in those moments? Is it reflected in the FPS or only something you feel?

Has anything changed to the PC or your software config in the last few months?

Can you describe the stutter in other intensive workloads (i.e. not games)?
