Power supply connector question

You are not going to be able to do that properly without removing the pin from the connector though. I would just use the ugly one that came with the card, gpu's are too expensive these days to take unnecessary risks with.

Yer I totally agree with you on that buddy

better to use the adapter that came with the card or buy a new 16pin cable, whats £30 vs a new gpu and psu if they do go up, i think you caught it just in time, double check the psu side too, if the same pin is discolored, avoid using it, possibly look at a replacement psu if there is any color difference.

You’re just rolling the dice once again. The issue is 12vhpwr implementation. The tolerances required to balance the load simply aren’t there and with the card having to circuitry to measure and adjust the load never will be. 12vHP simply isn’t fit for purpose.

Yer i will check my psu also thanks guys. My psu is less than a month old also. On the cable that came supplied with the card do i have to plug in all connections on the lead or only 2

Tell them you have done the best you can without taking the cable apart and see if you can get a replacement. (cable or full PSU)
I’ve asked if they do replacement cables and they said not for my psu and I’d have to contact ASU’s for that

Asus doesn't deal with the end user though. RMA's have to go through the place it was purchased. You didn't buy the psu from that Bolton place did you because if you did good luck getting it replaced.

Bolton place you mean scan computers? I got my psu from overclockers

Yes I did but delete the name as we are not allowed to mention competitors on here.

I would have thought better of OCUK, at this point they have to be aware of the melting connector problem, we have a huge thread on it on here so the suggestion to clean it is ridiculous as you can't clean it properly without de-pinning it. Nobody should basically be told to "take a chance" with a suspect connector, especially on a power hungry card like a 4090. I would be pushing for a replacement mentioning that if it is starting to go they will be replacing a 4090 as well when the connector melts.

Cheers buddy for the advice

I’ve been advised to send it back now for testing and if faulty il get a replacement psu thing is the issue isn’t the psu it’s the actual lead hopefully they’ll replace it

They need to realise that you can't be too careful with this awful connector. At this point with all the problems with these connectors the manufacturers should issue the retailers with spare cables that they can issue in cases like yours where the connector is suspect.

Before you return it, i would put a letter in the PSU box outlining that it is the cable that is the problem, otherwise they may just test if the PSU is working and send it back to you.

The contractor on the card is also faulty. Changing the cable isn’t going to fix that and will likely make any issue worse.
