Allo Ladies,

I have been thinking about my PSU Requirements since my upgrade to SandyBridge,

I have BeQuiet 1200 Watt PSU to run:

Intel 2600k
Asus P67 Pro
EVGA 570 OC - will be two of these in a few months time
X-Fi Extreme Music
4x 1.5 TB Greens
2x 60gb Vertex SSD's
2x DVD Drives.
1X Swiftech Laing D5 Vario MCP655 12V DC Pump
10 fans and a controller
2 CCL's

Would it be worth me downsizing my PSU? as with my last rig:
QX6960
SLi 8800GTX

it was costing me 8Pence and hour to run it, i suspect that was mainly the PSU Draw?

If your computer uses 700W under load, it'll use 700W with a 700W power supply, and it'll still use 700W with a 2kW power supply.

Downsizing power supply is not going to save you significant amounts of electricity. It may well cost you more. It depends where on the efficiency curves your system lies.

as i thought, i dont want my PSU working at 100% load so therefore, say having a PSU of 1.2kw when the draw is 800, my PSU Should be running cooler? more efficient? etc.
Right?

your system is likely to draw nearer 400W than 800, maybe 500W when running full load, even with 2nd 570 itll still likely be less than 700 95% of time, as Jon said if youre really bothered you could measure your draw from the wall and check where on the efficiency curve your draw is and work it out but I doubt its going to save you very much at all and certainly not when you think about the cost of buying new PSU etc
