Pc working fine Thursday, Friday came and there was a horrendous smell in my bedroom. Investigation led me to the computer. After further investigation, the pc was rebooting today from just sitting in the BIOS. The smell was apparent after a few minutes of being turned on, then it hit with a burning plastic kind of smell but I couldn't pinpoint the source.

A few minutes ago after some more investigation the smell came and I could hear a sparking/clicking noise, very shortly followed by some smoke from the PSU. Swiftly disconnected and removed from pc.

Question being, would this have taken out any other components?

Now to find out if OCuK can do anything or to RMA to OCZ.

No everything else should be fine as you turned it off straight away.
Should be as simple as replace the PSU and away you go.

its not very often that the PSU will take out other parts of the PC but it has been known
with cheap PSU's, I would always recommend a Corsair PSU and there customer service
and RMA service it brilliant.

Thanks, at the time of building the pc I couldn't afford a Corsair. But never mind this OCZ has served me well.

Yup, its an OCZ StealthXStream 700w psu. Has been flawless up to now. :(

Friday came and there was a horrendous smell in my bedroom. .

Really? Nice. :o

Investigation led me to the computer.

My investigations usually lead to me blaming the cat or a bad pint...

EDIT: I was going to get the OCZ StealthXStream 700w myself but wussed out at the last minute and got a GX 750 instead. Time will tell whether I made a good decision or not.
