Hi guys,

Newbie here.

My computer, a 6-year-old Advent DT1310b (yeah, it's an oldie, but still serves me well) is in need of a new power supply fan and I'm having trouble finding one that meets the specifications it needs. So far, all I know is that it needs 450 watts and hopefully something that's not too expensive. As I've never modded a computer before, I want to make sure I get this right without blowing my computer up.

If anyone can recommend any good fans that might work, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Is it just the fan you want to replace or the whole power supply?

Swapping the fan on a power supply is fairly straightforward but is not without risks. Determining the fan that is in the power supply if the first step in replacement as you need to consider how fast it spins, its form factor and the approximate amount of air it shifts.

A tutorial I wrote back in 2011 is still relevent, especially for me as the modification is still working...

For the cost of a 450w PSU i'd look at replacing the whole unit instead of just the fan, providing it's a standard size and not some odd ball thing that vendors use from time to time.
