Hi,

I keep getting asked to build Servers but I have always stayed away because I thought it could be a stressful thing to be involved in. However over the years I have become a lot more confident with my hardware skills but I am still reluctant to get involved with 'corporate' clients because of issues such as hardware failure, the prime component that gives me 'the fear' is the PSU. The thought of the PSU blowing and 40 paid staff grinding to a halt is not pleasant (read stress stress!! ).

So I guess my question is what brand of PSU do you think would be suitable for a big (Quad-Core, Raid-5) server? Also can anyone shed some light on this 'redundant PSU' concept? I don't know anything about it :o

Thanks in advance! :)

You can spec most high-end rackmount servers with a redundant PSU - that is there is an extra PSU in the case. This PSU is also plugged into the mains and if a fault is detected with the first PSU, this one kicks in.

Personally, I wouldn't bother building your own HP, Dell et al are all very competitive these days - but if you have to, use decent kit like Supermicro.
